ELDERS

Elders are set apart for the ministry of the Word, for watching over the souls of the members of our congregation. Along with their work of prayer for and concern for the welfare of the saints, they exercise gentle leadership over the Gospel ministry work we all partner together to do. They ensure that the Scriptures and Christ’s Gospel are faithfully proclaimed, and that the sacraments are rightly administered.

Barrett Marcantel

Senior Pastor & Elder

Though Barrett hails from the more temperate climate of Southwest Louisiana, he enjoys the varied seasons and cooler air of Sheboygan County.  He grew up in Kinder, Louisiana.  It is a small town, just on the edge of Cajun country.  He received a bachelor of arts in theology from Moody Bible Institute in December of 2004 and a master of arts in systematic theology from Wheaton Graduate School in May of 2012.  He previously served as the senior pastor in two other churches before coming to Hingham: the First Baptist Church of Evangeline (LA) and the First Baptist Church of Elton (LA). He is married to Alicia, and they have 4 children: Connor, Christi, Ellie, and Ivy.  Pastor Barrett enjoys Country music, cooking Cajun food, and philosophizing around a campfire.

Kevin Bruggink

Growing up in a small Presbyterian church in nearby Cedar Grove, Kevin transferred his membership to Hingham 35+ yrs ago when he moved in next door to the church with his wife LuAnn. Since then God has blessed them with two daughters, Paige and Cameron, who love Jesus. Kevin views his work in the Oostburg School District as a place where he can show God’s love to others. Kevin loves to SCUBA dive, bike, and play sports, but these days primarily enjoys time with his family and their horses.

Vice President of Elders

Steve grew up in Oostburg and attended Lakeland College. He spent 33 years teaching 3rd and 4th grade in Oostburg before retiring in 2008. Steve has been married to his best friend, Laura, for over 54 years. Together, they have been blessed with 4 adult children and 8 grandchildren.

In his retirement, Steve enjoys working on projects around the house and outdoors, woodworking, learning guitar, spending time at their cabin, and cherishing moments with family.

Hingham Church has been a source of great blessing to their family since they became members over 40 years ago. His favorite verse is: Proverbs 3: 5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.”
