ELDERS

Elders are set apart for the ministry of the Word, for watching over the souls of the members of our congregation. Along with their work of prayer for and concern for the welfare of the saints, they exercise gentle leadership over the Gospel ministry work we all partner together to do. They ensure that the Scriptures and Christ’s Gospel are faithfully proclaimed, and that the sacraments are rightly administered.

Barrett Marcantel

Senior Pastor & Elder

Though Barrett hails from the more temperate climate of Southwest Louisiana, he enjoys the varied seasons and cooler air of Sheboygan County.  He grew up in Kinder, Louisiana.  It is a small town, just on the edge of Cajun country.  He received a bachelor of arts in theology from Moody Bible Institute in December of 2004 and a master of arts in systematic theology from Wheaton Graduate School in May of 2012.  He previously served as the senior pastor in two other churches before coming to Hingham: the First Baptist Church of Evangeline (LA) and the First Baptist Church of Elton (LA). He is married to Alicia, and they have 4 children: Connor, Christi, Ellie, and Ivy.  Pastor Barrett enjoys Country music, cooking Cajun food, and philosophizing around a campfire.

Steve dejong

Steve is once again serving Hingham Church in the role of Elder. He has been married to his wife, Nancy, since November 1999, and together they are blessed with three children, one of whom is married.

Steve has faithfully served the church in both deacon and elder roles over the years, bringing steady leadership, humility, and a heart for service. His life and ministry are grounded in Scripture, particularly Romans 6:23 and Micah 6:8, which reflect his commitment to walking humbly with God and pointing others to the gift of life found in Christ.

In addition to his service at Hingham Church, Steve also serves on the board of directors for Our Home Christian Ministries, supporting its mission to care for others through Christ-centered compassion.

Larry has been a member of Hingham Church for 10 years. He and his wife, Patti, have been married for 31 years and raised two children, and they now enjoy spending time with their four grandchildren.

Larry has previously served as an elder and currently teaches adult Sunday school, helps organize the First Aid/Medical Group, and delivers DVDs. He enjoys family gatherings, community events, outdoor activities, woodworking, reading, fixing things, and traveling—especially road trips. Larry also works part-time as a physician, teaching family medicine residents in Milwaukee.

Larry is thankful for the vibrant ministry of Hingham Church and how the congregation has faithfully served the Lord through recent challenges. His favorite Bible book is Luke, and a favorite Scripture passage is Philippians 2:12–16.

Hingham Church has been a source of great blessing to their family since they became members over 40 years ago. His favorite verse is: Proverbs 3: 5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.”

Over the years, Steve has served Hingham Church in many roles, including Sunday school teacher, youth group leader, elder, deacon, and choir member. His long history of service reflects a deep commitment to both the congregation and its mission.

Outside of church, Steve enjoys golf, hunting, and woodworking. He values Hingham Church as a place of family and belonging—a community where faith is nurtured and relationships are built across generations.

One of Steve’s favorite Scripture passages is 2 Corinthians 5:17–20, which speaks to new life in Christ and the calling to be ambassadors for Him—truths that have shaped his faith and service throughout the years.

DEACONS

Deacons are set apart as models of excellent service, watching over the tangible needs of the church. They are quick to notice and respond to needs from church members as they arise. They are leaders who are gifted at organizing works of service, and mobilizing combined ministry efforts.
Deacons are an indispensable support to the elders, so that the elders are able to pay greater attention to the ministry of the Word.
